This year 17th Galway Gort Scouts have enabled 25 adult and youth members of Scouting Ireland to be awarded a Remote Emergency Care Certificate.
During our training and from other literature it became obvious that one of the most vital pieces of eqipment that each group should consider having is an AED (defibrillator).
After approaching both Gort and District Lions Club, who gave us €1000 of which €500 was towards a defibrialator, Gort Credit Union has most generously matched that €500 to enable us to purchase the item.

If you are a member of Scouting Ireland aged between 18 and 26 (or would like to join), you can take part in Rover activities!
You do not need to be specifically registered as a Rover Scout with Scouting Ireland.

On Saturday 17th September the Beaver and Cub sections of the 17th Galway Gort Scout Group had a joint event in Coole park with backwoods skills and general woodcraft work.
After a successful application for assistance from Gort Lyons Club we were honoured to be presented with a cheque for €1000.
€500 towards an AED and €500 towards the purchase of much needed eqipment for our youth members.
We ended our day on a high with the presentation of Beaver CSA awards to two now new cubs, a Stage 7 Emergency Badge for our Cub Section Leader and service awards for eligible scouters.
It was certainly a day to remember.

On the 1st October, while Gort Cubs were meeting to go sailing for the first time the Credit Union came to wish us well and announce the award of funding.
The availability and location of these devices is certainly something we believe everyone should make themselves aware of.
