This year 17th Galway Gort Scouts have enabled 25 adult and youth members of Scouting Ireland to be awarded a Remote Emergency Care Certificate.
During our training and from other literature it became obvious that one of the most vital pieces of eqipment that each group should consider having is an AED (defibrillator).
After approaching both Gort and District Lions Club, who gave us €1000 of which €500 was towards a defibrialator, Gort Credit Union has most generously matched that €500 to enable us to purchase the item.

On Saturday 17th September the Beaver and Cub sections of the 17th Galway Gort Scout Group had a joint event in Coole park with backwoods skills and general woodcraft work.
After a successful application for assistance from Gort Lyons Club we were honoured to be presented with a cheque for €1000.
€500 towards an AED and €500 towards the purchase of much needed eqipment for our youth members.
We ended our day on a high with the presentation of Beaver CSA awards to two now new cubs, a Stage 7 Emergency Badge for our Cub Section Leader and service awards for eligible scouters.
It was certainly a day to remember.

About
We are Galway’s oldest scout group (on the go for nearly 90 years
now!) based in Galway city centre. Our den is located in the basement of Ozanam House on St. Augustine Street, just behind the Augustininan Church and a 2 minute from shop street. We have our own section of the building just for us to run our meetings and store equipment.
We run regular meetings for all the youth sections of scout here in Ireland, as well as weekend/day activities, depending on the section.
Beavers (6-8 year olds) run their meetings on Monday evenings from 6.45pm – 7.45pm.
Cubs (9-11 year olds) run their meetings on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm.
Scouts (12-15 year olds) run their meetings on Thursday evenings from 7pm – 8.45pm.
Ventures (16-18 year olds) run their meetings on Monday evenings from 8pm – 9pm.
Rovers (18-20 year olds), We also have Rover Scouts which is a network offering exciting opportunities whether you're into rock-climbing, kayaking or something more obscure.
All sections meet every week from September to June for Beavers and Cubs and the Scout section meetings run into July. The Venture meetings this year will not be running every week, they will instead be meeting up from time to time (at least once a month) to plan/do activities. Scouts hold an annual summer camp of a week's duration, Beavers will overnight at least once during the year and cubs will spend 2/3 nights under canvas as well as some summer outdoor meetings.
